Pages

Pages are written documents in the sidebar, such as handbooks, checklists and process guides, with live views embedded right in the text.

A page is a document in the sidebar. It has a title, an optional icon, an optional cover image, and a body of text and blocks.

Use pages for writing that should sit next to your screens: how a status is meant to be used, a checklist for opening a new site, the definition of a number on a dashboard, or a team handbook.

Create a page#

  1. In the sidebar, hover over the section or folder where the page should go and choose +.
  2. Choose New page.
  3. Type a title. Until you do, the page shows a placeholder.
  4. Start writing in the body.

Pages save automatically. You can add an icon and a cover image from the top of the page.

Add blocks#

Type / in the body to open the block menu, then pick a block or keep typing to search.

BlockWhat it does

Heading 1 to Heading 6Section headings, from large to small.
Bulleted List, Numbered ListUnordered and ordered lists.

CalloutA highlighted note or warning.
ToggleContent hidden behind a heading until someone opens it.
2 columns, 3 columnsSplit the page into side-by-side columns.
TableA simple table you fill in by hand.

EmbedEmbed a video, file or web page from a link.
Data viewEmbed a live table or view from your system.

Embed a live view#

The Data view block shows one of your views inside the page. The records are live: people can see and work with them without leaving the document. This lets a page explain a process and show the list that process uses, side by side.

The embedded view still follows its own rules. People only see the rows their access filter allows, and only if they are allowed to open that view.

Page settings#

Open the menu in the page's header to change how the page looks for everyone who opens it:

  • Font: choose Default, Serif or Mono.
  • Small text: use a smaller text size.
  • Full width: use the full width of the screen instead of a narrow column.

The same menu lets you Copy link, Duplicate the page, Move to another folder, or Move to Trash.

Lock a page#

Choose Lock page in the page's header menu to stop edits to the document. Choose it again to unlock.

Locking only protects the text and blocks of the page. It does not stop people from editing records in an embedded view, if their access allows it.

Who can open a page#

Pages live in folders, like views and dashboards. Who can open a page follows its folder, unless the page has its own access rules. See Access.

Pages and the Page column#

A sidebar page is a document for the team. A Page column is a document stored on each record of a table.

  • Use a sidebar page for a handbook, a runbook or a decision record.
  • Use a Page column for content that belongs to one record, such as the specification for one project.
Tip: If you find yourself writing lists of items in a page and updating them by hand, those items probably belong in a table. Embed a view of that table in the page instead.
