Columns
Files
Use a Files column to attach photos, contracts, drawings, and other uploads to a record. Limit file count, size, and type.
A Files column stores uploaded files on each record. Each Files column keeps its own set of files, so photos and signed contracts can live in separate columns with separate rules.
When to use it#
Use Files for Product Photos, Signed Contracts, Invoice PDFs, or Site Drawings.
If the file lives in another system and you only need a link to it, use a URL column instead.
Settings#
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Max files per entry | The most files one record can hold, up to 200. Leave it empty for no limit. |
| Max file size (MB) | The largest file people can upload. Leave it empty for no limit. |
| Allowed file types | The kinds of files accepted, separated by commas. Use file types such as application/pdf, or wildcards such as image/* for all images. Leave it empty to allow all types. |
| Dedicated panel in entry view | Shows the files as their own panel on the record page, instead of inside the form. |
Max file size (MB) and Allowed file types are under Show advanced options when you create the column, and in Edit property afterwards.
Tips#
- Add one Files column per kind of file when the kinds have different rules. For example, "Photos" accepts
image/*with no limit, while "Signed Contract" acceptsapplication/pdfand holds one file. - Turn on Dedicated panel in entry view for photos, contracts, and drawings. A panel gives files the space they need on the record page.
- Uploading and deleting files follows the permissions of the view people are working in. Someone who can only read a view can't delete its files.
- Workflows can list, download, upload, and delete the files in a Files column, for example to attach a generated PDF to the record.
- Files columns can't be duplicated or converted to another type, and can't be added to time series tables.
