# Table summary widget

> The Table widget shows a short list of rows from a view on a dashboard, such as the next deliveries, overdue invoices or low stock items.

The Table widget shows a short list of rows from a [view](/docs/views). Use it for "the next ten" or "the latest exceptions": overdue invoices, jobs scheduled today, items low on stock.

In the widget picker, this type is called **Table**, with the description "Compact row preview".

## Create a table summary

1. On the dashboard, choose **Add Widget**.
2. Enter a title, for example `Overdue invoices`.
3. Under **Widget Type**, choose **Table**.
4. Under **Data Source**, select the view to read from.
5. Under **Columns to Display**, tick the columns to show.
6. Set the **Row Limit**, from 1 to 50 rows.
7. Check the **Live Preview** and choose **Create**.

## Choose which rows appear

The widget shows rows from the view you pick. To control which rows appear, point the widget at a view that is already filtered to what you want to see, such as a view of unpaid invoices.

The view's [access filter](/docs/base-views) still applies, so people only see rows they are allowed to see.

## Keep it short

A table summary is meant to be glanced at. Show only the few columns needed to recognize each row, and keep the row limit low.

When people need to work through a longer list, give them a proper [view](/docs/views) instead, and link to it from a [page](/docs/pages) or place it in the sidebar.

## Examples

| Question | View | Columns | Row Limit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Unpaid invoices | Invoices where Status is not Paid | Number, Customer, Amount, Due date | 10 |
| Scheduled jobs | Jobs where Status is Scheduled | Customer, Technician, Date | 20 |
| Low stock | Parts where Low stock is checked | Part, Stock, Supplier | 10 |
