# Phone

> Use a Phone column to store contact phone numbers on a record, such as a mobile, an office line, or a site contact number.

A Phone column stores a phone number as a phone number, for example `+49 30 901820`, rather than as plain text.

## When to use it

Use Phone for a contact number on a record: Mobile, Office, or Site Contact Phone.

If the person is a member of your organization, use a [Person](/docs/columns/person) column instead. Their profile already says how to reach them.

## Settings

A Phone column has no type-specific settings. You can still make it required or unique under **Show advanced options**.

## Tips

- Name the column after whose number it is, such as "Site Contact Phone".
- Enter numbers with the country code, such as `+49`, if your team works across countries. It makes numbers unambiguous for everyone.
- A Phone column can be converted to Text, and a Text column can be converted to Phone. See [Change a column's type](/docs/columns#change-a-columns-type).
