# Person

> Use a Person column to assign one or more members of your organization to a record, such as an owner, assignee, or reviewers.

A Person column stores one or more members of your organization. People pick from the members who can sign in to your SAPUGO organization.

## When to use it

Use Person for roles on a record: Assignee, Owner, Approver, or Reviewers.

Pick a different type when the person isn't a member:

- A contact outside your organization: use [Email](/docs/columns/email), [Phone](/docs/columns/phone), or [Text](/docs/columns/text).
- A contact with their own details and history, such as a customer contact: keep them in a Contacts table and link to it with a [Relation](/docs/columns/relation).

## Settings

| Setting | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Allow multiple people** | Lets a record hold more than one person. It is on by default. Turn it off for a single owner, assignee, or approver. |
| **Minimum Users** and **Maximum Users** | How many people a record must have and can have. Only shown when **Allow multiple people** is on. |
| **Filter by Groups** | Limits the picker to members of specific [groups](/docs/groups), so a Technician column doesn't offer the accounting team. |

**Filter by Groups** is under **Show advanced options** when you create the column, and in **Edit property** afterwards.

> **Note:** Decide on **Allow multiple people** when you create the column. Changing it later converts how every existing value is stored.

## Tips

- Name the column after the role, such as "Assignee" or "Reviewers", not "Person".
- To let each person see only their own work, filter a [base view](/docs/base-views) on this column with **Current User**. Everyone who opens the view sees only the records assigned to them.
